'I wanted to try something different!' Ed Sheeran smartens up in white shirt and black waistcoat as he performs on X Factor

As he continues to dominate the pop charts with his seemingly endless string of hits, Ed Sheeran has taken steps to smarten up his image.
While the redhead singer has won over fans and critics alike with his musical stylings, he now appears to be striving for acclaim in the fashion world, given his new look on Sunday night's X Factor.
Performing his new single Thinking Out Loud, Ed wore a white button-down shirt under a black waistcoat, teamed with slim-fit black trousers.

Speaking to host Dermot O'Leary after receiving a standing ovation from the audience - as well as judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Louis Walsh - Ed explained the reason for his new look.

As Dermot spoke of the fact that Ed had the luxury of a backing band for his appearance on the show, the singer responded: 'I wore a suit as well!'
'I wanted to try something different,' he went on to say. 'This is the first time I've played this song properly in the UK, so I wanted to try something new.'

Much to the delight of the audience, Ed also declared that he was a big fan of X Factor hopeful Andrea Faustini.
Earlier in the night, American group OneRepublic took to the stage as they performed their hit I Lived.
Following the performance, band member Ryan Tedder spoke of his joy at writing Ghost with X Factor album Ella Henderson.

She won me over within 60 seconds of a YouTube clip. I didn't even know she was on X Factor,' he admitted, as he went on to explain that he immediately accepted Simon Cowell's request to work with her.
Sunday night's show saw the end of Jake Quickenden's X Factor journey, as he became the fifth act voted out in the third round of elimination.
He joined a growing list of booted acts that includes Blonde Electra, Chloe-Jasmine Whichello, Stephanie Nala and Overload Generation
