Google AdSense for Search has time and again been under scrutiny over the years. There have been a large number of antitrust cases filed against the company in various countries, and Google has fought numerous legal battles across nations. In July, the European Union accused Google of having abused their market power, and claimed that their placement of ads in third party website violates marketing ethics and laws
The deadline for Google to respond to the complaint has been extended time and again. There have been three major accusations against Google. The first of the three states that the company, with their Google AdSense service, was ‘blocking rivals in online search advertising’. The deadline for Google to respond to this allegation has now been extended to the 3rd of November. The original deadline for the company was 26th October.
European Commission spokesman Ricardo Cardoso commented on this second extension, saying: “Google asked for additional time to review the documents in the case file. In line with normal practice, the commission analysed the reasons for the request and granted an extension allowing Google to fully exercise its rights of defence.”
Two more allegations against Google have been made towards the Google AdSense service. The case states that the company allows websites such as online retailers, telecom operators and newspapers to allow to create search engine within their own sites, which generates revenue by placing ads on the search results. Another allegation against Google was that the company abuses the massive market share of the Android OS which does not allow a proper competition in the markets to grow.
While the deadline to respond over the allegation of blocking rivals has been extended, the deadlines for the other two allegations against Google remain unchanged, which are the 7th of November and the 31st of October. Both these deadlines too have received extensions. Google, on their part have claimed that they are not involved in any wrongdoing.
